About us
A terminology service built around SNOMED CT
Independent, standards-driven, and working in close cooperation with SNOMED International and National Release Centers.
termMed is an independent South American company that specializes in providing comprehensive managed-service solutions for organizations responsible for maintaining SNOMED CT national extensions, as well as regional collaborating centers, health networks and implementers.
We have a close working relationship with SNOMED International and National Release Centers (NRCs) to support and supplement the various requirements and content-management processes necessary to publish extensions that fully adhere to SNOMED CT specifications, editorial guidelines and best practices.
Our journey
More than 25 years with SNOMED CT
- 1995
termMed begins translating SNOMED III into Spanish, in collaboration with the College of American Pathologists.
- Early 2000s
Active members of the SNOMED Standards Board and Technical Design Team, contributing to SNOMED CT specifications; the Spanish Edition translation is completed in 2004.
- 2006–2015
Dedicated contractors to IHTSDO, focused on technical and content-development support for daily maintenance of the International English Edition, and supporting NRCs on IHTSDO’s behalf.
- 2014
termMed develops the open-source SNOMED International browser under contract with IHTSDO, then evolves it into a lightweight extension-editing environment — the beginnings of termSpace.
- Since 2014
termSpace supports maintenance of the SNOMED CT Spanish Edition and is adopted by Uruguay, The Netherlands and Canada, and later chosen for common-language collaborations such as French and German.
- Today
Based in Montevideo, termMed provides termSpace managed services to Uruguay, Argentina, Canada, Finland, Germany, multi-NRC collaborations and regional projects across the US and Europe.
Our team
The core of our team has worked together for more than 20–25 years and has contributed to the publication of more than 80 international and national SNOMED CT releases.
As active members of the SNOMED Community of Practice, we have contributed to the development of SNOMED CT technical specifications — including the RF2 history-tracking and versioning mechanism and the reference-set specifications and implementations — and to many editorial and model-development projects in collaboration with NRCs and SNOMED International, such as the International Clinical Drug model and the vaccine remodeling.
